It is with great honor that Bear Catholic announces its partnership with Greeley Area Habitat for Humanity (GAHFH) for a six-month mission project during the 2010-2011 school year! Bear Catholic students from UNC will break ground on Saturday, September 11th, on a home they will build from foundation to shingles themselves. This year, conferences and out-of-the-country mission trips will be replaced with a local, ongoing, and sustainable project. The project is to build a home alongside a family who lacks adequate shelter right here in Greeley, CO. Greeley Area Habitat for Humanit (GAHFH) is a non-profit, faith based organization who works in partnership with companies, organizations and individuals everywhere to develop affordable communities with all of God's people. Bear Catholic will be working in collaboration with Habitat construction staff and general contractors to both raise funds and build a home with a family in need. The partner family, who will work side-by-side with the students throughout the construction process, is qualified based on:

“It’s an opportunity for our young adults to truly experience sacrifice and humility without even having to leave the city limits,” Father Rocco, says of his idea to partner with Habitat for Humanity. “We have to give them real world experience for them to be successful Christian leaders of tomorrow. They will get to see and be part of something from beginning to end. A true testament to Christ’s teachings.”
Not only will students get to experience the joy and fulfillment of providing shelter to a family in need, but they will also get to experience the grace of funding a project that needs both consistent physical, volunteer labor, and also the generosity of those willing to put others before themselves. They will be asked to help fundraise the cost of sponsoring a house, which will also be accomplished in the six-month time frame. Every penny raised goes toward the construction cost of the home.
Joe Tennessen, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity, says, “It was like a miracle!” speaking about the partnership Bear Catholic proposed.
