It costs $250 per student a year to operate Bear Catholic at UNC. With those funds, each student is afforded the opportunity to participate in reoccurring events like Java with Abba, DTS, Bible studies, daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration and many others. The presence of six FOCUS Missionaries is an integral part of successful programs and ministry offered to each and every student who takes part in the Bear Catholic program. Each student who participates also establishes the type of fellowship that is fundamentally spiritual and fun that, students who are in a critical transitional point in their lives, may not receive from other university clubs and organizations which most likely charge a fee to become a member. In addition, students are given the opportunity to discover and share their faith with others who hold similar values and beliefs and are given a physical location in the Catholic University Center and Campus Chapel in order to do so.
How is that Money Raised?
With the combined efforts of Father Rocco and the development office, various methods are used in raising enough money to offer an exceptional Catholic ministry to university students. The most significant means of income, very generously, comes from the community of Greeley, St. Peter's parishioners and those closely associated with the students involved in Bear Catholic.
What about the Cost of Retreats and Conferences?
Because there is a considerable cost associated with retreats, conferences and mission trips, those expenses are shared between each participating student and Bear Catholic. The cost for these additional activities are offered at a minimal or discounted rate in order to give students the opportunity to participate. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to accommodate every student for every activity.
Will the Sponsor a Student Program Help Make Attending Conferences and Retreats Possible for All Students?
Absolutely! Benefactors electing to Sponsor a Student will not only help to alleviate the financial burden of additional activities, but will also enable the possibility of granting scholarships and stipends so that all students can participate in the retreats and conferences that they would benefit from, without having to sacrifice participation in another, simply due to the cost.
